September Peer Support Member Training Event
Sponsored by the Alabama First Responder Peer Support and Alabama Fellowship of Fire Chaplains, this Peer Support Member Training is a 2-day in-person course that trains students to become peer support team members. Students will learn policies and procedures to follow as peers: active listening and communication skills, general mental health knowledge, suicide awareness, crisis intervention, grief, substance abuse, skills building, and self-care as it pertains to the fire service. Completing the class requirements and the prerequisite documentation can lead to a State of Alabama Certified Peer Support Member certification.
This event is from September 9th to the 10th at Montgomery Fire Rescue Station 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

Responding to Disasters Training Event
Sponsored by the Alabama Fellowship of Fire Chaplains, this Fire Chaplaincy Training Event is for anyone interested in working with and providing emergency services as a chaplain. Night 1 will be based on the role of chaplains in Building a Family Assistance Center Following a Disaster with the Director of the Alabama S-MORT Team. Day 2 will be a full day of training on the role of chaplains in working with the Red Cross, line-of-duty deaths, deaths of someone you know, suicide, and other difficult responses, psychological first aid, understanding and using FEMA search and rescue, defusing the situation and duties of the department chaplain, and much more. We will have multiple local directors, chiefs, chaplains, & reps from multiple sources, and a drawing for prizes afterward.
This event will start Friday, Aug 2nd at the Alabama Fire College Regional Training Center in Muscle Shoals from 5 pm to 9 pm. The last day of this event will be Aug 3rd from 8 am to 5 pm.
ALL current Active Members are $25. Non-members are $50. (Cost for Members is subject to becoming lower as corporate donations are finalized). Any materials & Saturday's lunch are included. June Essentials Training Event
Sponsored by the Federation of Fire Chaplains and Alabama Fellowship of Fire Chaplains, this Essentials of Fire Chaplaincy training event is an introductory course in fire chaplaincy for anyone interested in building their foundational understanding for more advanced chaplaincy courses. It is also designed with newly appointed fire chaplains in mind and veteran chaplains who need a refresher course to update their information and skills.
This event is from June 7th to the 8th at the Butler County Emergency Management Agency in Greenville from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. ALL current Active Members are $200. Non-members are $225. This price includes the training classes, all course materials, and daily lunches, snacks, and drinks.
Early registration is required. If interested, please notify AFFC of your intent and register today. The last day to register is May 17th, so we can have the necessary materials ready in time for class.

Basics of Fire Chaplaincy Training Event
Sponsored by the Alabama Fellowship of Fire Chaplains, this Basics of Fire Chaplaincy training event is a one-day training event highly recommended for those beginning their fire chaplaincy or fire chiefs bringing or desiring a chaplain into their department. This group discussion will cover an intro to emergency services chaplaincy, how to get a chaplain in your department, an overview of critical incident stress management, psychological first aid, and much more.
This event is May 3rd at Elkmont Volunteer Fire in Elkmont from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is a FREE event (snacks and drinks provided).

CISM Training Event
Sponsored by the Alabama Baptist Chaplaincy Ministries, 1:1 Foundation, and River Region Chaplain Service, this two-day course builds upon and is the logical continuation of the basic ASSISTING
INDIVIDUALS IN CRISIS course. Using the SAFER-R framework as a platform, participants are introduced to scenario-based variations of the model.
This event starts Friday, December 1st, at ALABAMA BAPTIST DISASTER RELIEF CENTER in Prattville from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day.

Working With and Providing Emergency Services Training Event
Sponsored by the Alabama Fellowship of Fire Chaplains, this Fire Chaplaincy Training Event is for anyone interested in working with and providing emergency services as a chaplain. Night 1 will be based on the role of chaplains with active shooters and a class by a meteorologist on national weather service storm spotters. Day 2, will be a full day of training on the role of chaplains in severe storms and responses to many types of fire events, and the role of chaplains at a drowning, suicide, and sponsoring departments. We will have multiple local directors, chiefs, chaplains, & reps from Fire Rescue, Water Rescue, EMA, Coroner’s office, Red Cross, 911, Swat, Police, AFFC, etc., and a drawing for prizes afterward.
This event will start Friday, June 23rd at the Alabama Fire College Regional Training Center in Muscle Shoals from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The last day of this event will be June 24th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Pastoral Crisis Intervention Training Event
Sponsored by the Alabama Fellowship of Fire Chaplains, this Fire Chaplaincy Training Event is a combination of faith-based resources and traditional techniques of crisis intervention for anyone interested in building their understanding of the nature of human crisis and crisis intervention, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), signs and symptoms of the crisis state, the “crisis of faith”, criteria for psychological triage, the Strategic SAFER-PCI Model, common PCI Mistakes, and challenging PCIs.
